Welcome to The Wheatley lab! 

Our goal is to understand how antibiotic resistance emerges and spreads in bacterial pathogens. We are based at Queen's University Belfast in the School of Biological Sciences. 

We use a variety of approaches from evolutionary microbiology and microbial ecology to understand how interactions in the microbiome inform the spread of antibiotic resistance, and are also interested in the role of mobile genetic elements and bacterial defense systems in shaping bacterial populations.
