evolutionary microbiology & microbial ecology

The Wheatley lab is a research group at Queen's University Belfast working on antibiotic resistance, interactions in the microbiome, and the evolution of opportunistic bacterial pathogens.

The latest publication from the lab can be read here in Evolution Letters.

There are currently three funded PhD studentships open for applications:
1. NorthWestBio DTP (closing 6th January): "Space invaders: genetic and metabolic factors underpinning successful Pseudomonas invasion into microbial communities"
2. OneZoo CDT (closing 31st January): "Mapping the spread of zoonotic bacterial pathogens and their mobile genetic elements as drivers of infection"

3. FoodSystemsBio DTP (closing 3rd February): "Mapping the farmscape of antibiotic resistance: metagenomes, antibiotic resistance genes, and mobile genetic elements"
